According to the text commentary, "Actor Kidd Brewer ("Finler") passed away a year after the film was released in 1989. This dedication was added for the Special Edition release in 1993."

THINK ABOUT IT !!! If he died in an accident during underwater scenes how was it that he passed away a year after the film was released ?? According to the 'Wilmington Morning Star' dated May 24th 1990 he died of a gunshot wound to the head at his home on May 22nd 1990. It would appear, therefore, that any reference to a diving accident, particularly on set, is probably fictitious. (He was, however, an accomplished diver)"
